The War on Paper

There are a lot of things I thought would happen when I grew up and became a mother... one of which was that I would suddenly be organized/put together.
HAHAHA.
Honestly, I am at a point where I don't know if I will ever remember to take the grocery list with me while shopping... or have a band aid box that holds actual band aids and not just the empty garbage wrappers. (sorry, kids.)
Despite my lack of organization, I have one thing that I am true to... and that is my hatred of PAPER. If I had a super power, it would be throwing away paper. I'm always tossing it.
However, My kids love paper. They love to cut it up, scribble on it, crumble it to pieces, and glue on it... the problem is that they either leave a huge mess once finished, or they love it so much they must display it (ALL OF IT, ALWAYS)
My solution? (Other than nightly raids with garbage bags)... RECYCLING CRAFTSSSS.
Hear me out:
If you recycle, you have a pile stocked somewhere... (all those amazon purchases, pantry items used up, etc.)
Recycling is better than paper because its free, already there, and takes longer to use up.
When my kids are feeling crafty and I have not planned any activities, we open up the recycling and go from there.
Some days there are cool shaped items that inspire paint projects, other days we whip out the glue gun and make forts for our toys, and still other days its taking crayons and scribbling all over to make race tracks... honestly, recycling is like the free big brother of open ended toys.
I challenge you... next time that 2 or 3 o'clock hour hits and you are just trying to make it to dinnertime, go open that closet and let the kids look at the recycling...
Guaranteed magic!
